Am I Ready To Have A Dog Or A Cat?

Dogs and cats, you just can’t help loving them.  But, as much as giving you huge amounts of ‘unconditional love’ goes, being a 'doggy and/or moggy mum or dad' means realizing that life can now only go on if some minor adjustments are made … on your part, that is!

So when you are ready to ask yourself the question – ‘Am I truly ready to share my life with a dog and/or a cat?’ - the checklist below might be a good place to start.

Do I realize that from here on …

-  My garden will now be a ‘toilet’ and I will no longer be able to walk around the yard barefoot or otherwise with complete confidence.

-  My carpets will be replaced with tiles, timber or laminate.

-  My floors, clothing, furniture, bench-tops and cars will never again be free of pet hair.

-  I will never again own or wear anything black.

-  When my doorbell rings, it will always sound like we live in a kennel.

-  When the doorbell rings, I will never ever get to the door first ...  rather I will need to dodge bouncing, barking and purring fuzzy bodies to get there.

-  I will never ever have the couch or my bed to myself ever again. In fact I may never get to use the couch again … ever!!

-  I will never ever have another guilt free vacation.

-  I will be on a first-name basis with 6 or more veterinarians, as I put their yet unborn kids  or grand-kids through college.

-  My vocabulary will revolve around 6 words and 1 statement : out, sit, down, come, no, stay, and leave him/her/it ALONE.

-  My house will be cordoned off into zones with baby gates or barriers.

-  I will catch myself using 'baby talk' more and more - 'Eat your din-din' and 'Yummy yummy for the tummy' - 'Wanna go walkies'.

-  My pockets will be constantly filled with things like poop bags, treats and an extra leash.

-  I will constantly have to spell words like …

B-A-T-H,

B-A-L-L,

F-R-I-S-B-E-E,

W-A-L-K,

T-R-E-A-T,

C-A-R, P-A-R-K,

R-I-D-E,

B-O-N-E.

-  I will grow to love having wet and muddy paw print designs on all my household surfaces on rainy days or after hosing the garden.

-  I will now look strangely at people who think having ONE dog/cat ties them down too  much.

-  I will not answer the question 'Why do you have so many animals' from people who will never have the joy in their lives of knowing they are loved unconditionally by something as close to an angel as they will ever get.

-  How EMPTY my life would be!!!

-  Did you know … 'Dogs can smell a good person a mile away'

What Is It About Men and Their Dogs!!

Ok, so hold it right there fellas.....this could work equally well for us gals too!

After reading this you could be forgiven for thinking that there is something a little deeper, if not a tad sinister in the phrase... 'mans best friend'

Being a chronic dog lover, after having a giggle at this, I had no trouble forgiving dogs for their actions......as for the guys..well..!!!!!!!!

Dogs from a Man's Perspective:

1.  The later you are, the more excited your dogs are to see you.

2. Dogs don't notice if you call them by another dog's name.

3. Dogs like it if you leave a lot of things on the floor.

4. A dog's parents never visit.

5. Dogs agree that you have to raise your voice to get your point across.

6. You never have to wait for a dog; they're ready to go 24 hours a day.

7. Dogs find you amusing when you're drunk.

8. Dogs like to go hunting and fishing.

9. A dog will not wake you up at night to ask, "If I died, would you get another dog"??

10. If a dog has babies, you can put an ad in the paper and give them away.

11. A dog will let you put a studded collar on it without calling you a pervert.

12. If a dog smells another dog on you, they don't get mad. They just think it's interesting.

13. Dogs like to ride in the back of a pickup truck.

14. If a dog leaves, it won't take half of your stuff.

and last, but not least:

15.If you locked your wife and your dog in the boot of your car, when you open it - who do you think will be the happiest to see you?

I was amused to learn that nearly 1 in every 3 individuals spell the word German Shepherd incorrectly, calling them German Shepards instead. I am shocked that this breed of dog is so regularly misspelled, & I am even further amazed to realized that I write it like this for so lots of years.

I loathe spelling words mistakenly & I consistently seek to avoid it. I am always careful to make sure that I am exact with my spelling, but like any person, every so often I simply mess up. The good thing is that I have an easy way to remember how to spell this breed of dog the right way.

Follow my basic procedure here & you most certainly will consistently remember that it is not German Shepards, rather shepherds.

Think back to why this kind of canine was bred & perhaps you'll quickly figure this out. The German Shepherd was created as a labor canine, and it was only at the turn of the century that this dog came to existence.

Individuals in Germany needed a dog to help herd sheep.
Think of the words herd and sheep now, & then reverse them.
You don't think of the German Shepards (I am kidding) presently as sheep herding canines, as they are typically used by police to combat crime, in airports to sniff out substances, and in other situations that depend on the dog's great olfactory senses.

This, however, is why they were bred, & remembering this will make it much easier to spell the word correctly.

As long as you aim to keep this in mind every time you write or type out the word, I believe you'll get it correct from here. Do not feel too badly about it since one in three people do spell it incorrectly.

I have a dog his name is Max and he is a lovable and 'slightly overweight' Border Collie - this must mean, according to this article, that as his owner I have a problem due to his 'slightly over-weightness'.  Could it be that perhaps he is overweight because he is older and not as active as he used to be (much like me)?

When I saw this articles it grabbed my interest because I am both a dog lover and dog owner - but it sort of made wonder...'What,  then is the owner personality type of a 'Daschund,  Chihuahua or Wolfhound?

For dog owners there is an awful lot you can tell about them by their dog. A dog can give you a good look into his master’s personality. There is a wide variety of dogs and their masters all with varied lifestyles and characteristics. They range from the homeless guy on the corner with his "Heinz 57" mixed breed to the high society debutant with her champion poodle imported from France. Whoever you are and wherever you are from there is most likely a dog that fits your personality.

There are a few different clues to our personality given away by our dogs. First, is the type of dog that we have. For example the German Shepherd is widely recognized as a great all around dog. The German Shepherd is known to be very smart and high in energy. A well trained German Shepherd shows that his master is a person that can be the leader of the pack at home. What about when you see a Pit Bull? Isn't it pretty much the opposite effect? These dogs have a reputation as being unpredictable, aggressive, and dangerous. Often a person that has a Pit Bull is someone that is trying to look tough. They think that having a dog that is capable of killing makes them look intimidating. In reality, it can show that they are possibly victims of S.M.S. ( Small Man Syndrome ).

Another clue to your personality is the health of your dog. If your dog eats right, gets enough exercise and attention from you it shows that you really care about your companion. Having a healthy, happy dog also shows that you are a responsible person and that you are capable of providing a good life for your dog. A sickly dog or one that is either over or under weight is an obvious sign that his master does not care about him. Or maybe they liked the idea of having a dog, and then after a little while the novelty was gone and they started to neglect their dog. This person should not have a dog.

One more way that your dog says something about you is his behavior. We have all been to the park and seen the out of control dog that cannot even walk along side his master on a leash. Seeing someone try to get an untrained dog to listen can be painful to watch. Most likely this person is the type of person that starts something and then does not finish it. They got a dog and want to have fun with him, but they have failed to put the proper time and effort into training the dog. Being the master of a well trained dog shows that a person is willing to put in the work ahead of time to have an enjoyable experience with their dog.

Having a dog can be a great experience for both master and pet. This is as long as you take care of mans best friend in the right way. So enjoy this relationship and show others your personality through your dog.
