I came across this article a week ago and it got me thinking about some of the incredible 'fashion' statements our  generation got to experience and ....enjoy!!

Tom Hanks - Another Famous Mullet

Seems to me we did it all, bell bottoms, tank tops, mini-skirts, maxi-skirts, the Mary Quant Retro phase, beehive hairdos and of course the 'mullet' - to name a few.

Personally I loved mine, although I did not go for how it looked on some of the guys I knew - and looking at some of those pictures now, I can see why I felt that way.

In fact when statements like -

  • Your friends won't be able to look away!, and
  • Perfect for comedy acts and plays!

are used to describe what a mullet could do for you, how much more convincing would you need to make the decision to head on over to your hairdresser, burst through door and a yell -  "Give me a mullet....right away'.

Famous mullets -the one on Tom Hanks in Castaway -

and, the one on Joe Dirt.

Still, this is not my story, it belongs to the guy whose article I am featuring here.  Now, if you were a mullet wearer then this is for you,  we hope you enjoy this little trip down memory lane.

Oh..and by the way, I hear tell...the mullet is on its way back..Oh dear!

Go Mullet Go -by Johnny Beller

It is a fact that if you were around two decades a go you know how awesome mullets are. They were at once sexy and repulsive, magnetic and curiously feminine. The old saying goes, "business in the front, party in the back". Who could possibly forget that? Well, even if you did forget, do not worry. The Mullet is making a raging come back.

The south has always been known for its stubbornness. They were stubborn in the 1860's and they are just as stubborn or more so now when it comes to something so precious as hair, and on top of that something so precious as the mullet. It comes as a shock then when we hear of celebrities taking their fashion cues from a people so often thought of as backward and out of touch with high society. Backward is the new forward.

Some of you may not be aware of what this sexy hairstyle actually looks like. "Business in the front, party in the back," is only an explanation, after all. However, that is the catch phrase for a reason. The mullet consists of a trimmed, nearly conservative look in the front, all the while the hair in the back is left to grow long. Very often, the sides are cropped close or even shaven.

Thus the previously mentioned catch phrase was used to describe this hairstyle. The front is always conservative, so you don't do much with it as far as styling. However, since the back is left to grow long and beautiful, there are gobs of options when it comes to styling.

If you have a mullet and are worried about practicality,  stop worrying now. Ponytails are a quick and easy fix for the professional on the go. For a more stylish, out of the way option, you could even braid your mullet thus creating what is called the "rat tail". There are so many things you can do with the mullet. Never Fear.

Low maintenance is an attribute of the mullet that often goes overlooked because its awesome beauty. Because it has low maintenance and high attractiveness it is a prime hairstyle for the single man or woman.

Contrary to common perception, men are not the only people who can pull off the mullet. In it's hey day, many women wanted this style also. As it reemerges, the same is still true. Yes! Even kids and teenagers can have it done! So why not flashback to the glory days and ask for a mullet the next time you need a haircut?!

hairstyles can really complete a look. When it comes to fashion, I still believe that you should get hair cut up with what you are comfortable with. Always remember that crowds follow, they don’t lead.

Very good advice there Jinnie, I mean what is the point of following a whole bunch of people with bad haircuts by copying them and having the same bad haircut. But…people do it, all in the name of fashion!!

  6. I’m also a fan of the Major’s hair cut from ghost in the shell. it’s one of the better modern manga/anime hair cuts. I’ve also been a big fan of the poofy male haircuts from some late 70s early 80’s anime like Captian Harlock and that long strait hail on all the women.

Hey Monika – don’t think I can agree with you there, we see so much of the past fashions coming back into fashion…it’s scary…especially if there is any chance that this hairstyle could sneak its way back, into style. Heavens no…I hope not!

its an 1980s fashion but still can be seen in many Hollywood movies, including Brandon Fraser’s “George of the Jungle”, one thing you might have noticed that scrappy haircuts and worn and torn leather jackets go together in every movies, lol.
