Weird Storage Stories
'Hoarders and Storers of the world unite'...almost everyone of us has a penchant for hanging on to things, in some cases for years.

My grandmother would not, just could not, throw out saucers. If a cup broke too bad, Gran would keep the saucer. When she died she had 273 saucers and 15 cups!!
I came across this interesting article yesterday about the type of stuff that some people will 'store' and then visit with monotonous regularity, right up until they die or are incapacitated.
It was an eye-opener to me and may be to you too! It certainly was to the unsuspecting family members of one or two of these 'weird storees'.

The majority of self storage customers use storage for their furniture. Sports equipment, boats and RV's are also common.
For many it's when they move home that the need for self storage arises. And more and more businesses realise the benefits of using storage for archives and stock. These are the things you expect to see in storage.
But as with any business stranger things happen. People choose to store "unusual items" away from their home. Here are some that have been reported by self storage operators:
1. Randy was a treasured family pet, who had been at the centre of his family all his life. Sadly when Randy departed to run after dogs, cats and the odd mail man in the sky he left a grieving family who missed him terribly. But after a visit to the taxidermist Randy returned to his owners. Here the less mobile Randy continued to reassure the family with his presence. Some years later when a new lady replaced the wife of Randy's owner she failed to appreciate Randy's charms. He soon found his way into a storage room, made more homely with some photos and a few of his best toys. His owner visits him regularly and the storage operator ignores the "no pets" rule.

2. Dr Who's most feared enemy; the Daleks, tyrants of the galaxy, remorseless predators upon unsuspecting alien civilisations, planned many conquests from a self storage unit, or at least one of them did. This lone Dalek could often be seen patrolling the corridors of a London storage centre. An obsessive Dr Who fan snapped up his Dalek, but had no room for the destroyer of planets at home. So this evil entity found its way into storage. The fan visited often and crept inside the Dalek's armour before surprising innocent users of the facility. Never has there been a more secure storage building. Will Davros ever visit?
3. One customer managed to keep his interest in domination secret from his family. Unfortunately when he died his widow and family decided to empty his storage room of his "record collection". On opening the room not one record was found.
They did find a vast collection of whips and some studded leather clothing, covered in zips. The deceased interests stretched beyond mere records.
4. One man's interest in ladies shoes has led him to need storage for his ever expanding collection. Box after box of pristine high heeled designer shoes are carefully stored in his unit. Twice he's needed to move into a larger room. Each room is carefully shelved and each new pair is carefully placed in its new home. He pays his bills on time and takes more space, almost the perfect customer.
5. Colourful magazines depicting the natural forms of people exhibiting a complete lack of shyness in front of the camera often find their way into storage.
6. A Swiss gentleman was so sad when he sold his ancestral home that he put as much of the contents as he could afford into storage. But the most treasured item to be stored was a box of dust. This dust perfectly reminded him of the slightly musty smell that belonged to the house. Just sniffing it brought back floods of memories.
7. Just occasionally someone will try to store themselves.
The cool steel storage room proves to be an attractive affordable home. Who cares if there's no lighting, power, toilets or windows? The only problem is it's illegal.
