What Your Dog Says About You : OMG!

I have a dog his name is Max and he is a lovable and 'slightly overweight' Border Collie - this must mean, according to this article, that as his owner I have a problem due to his 'slightly over-weightness'.  Could it be that perhaps he is overweight because he is older and not as active as he used to be (much like me)?

When I saw this articles it grabbed my interest because I am both a dog lover and dog owner - but it sort of made wonder...'What,  then is the owner personality type of a 'Daschund,  Chihuahua or Wolfhound?

See what you think....!

Forrest Gump said, "Momma always says there's an awful lot you could tell about a person by their shoes. Where they're going. Where they've been." For dog owners there is an awful lot you can tell about them by their dog. A dog can give you a good look into his master’s personality. There is a wide variety of dogs and their masters all with varied lifestyles and characteristics. They range from the homeless guy on the corner with his "Heinz 57" mixed breed to the high society debutant with her champion poodle imported from France. Whoever you are and wherever you are from there is most likely a dog that fits your personality.

There are a few different clues to our personality given away by our dogs. First, is the type of dog that we have. For example the German Shepherd is widely recognized as a great all around dog. The German Shepherd is known to be very smart and high in energy. A well trained German Shepherd shows that his master is a person that can be the leader of the pack at home. What about when you see a Pit Bull? Isn't it pretty much the opposite effect? These dogs have a reputation as being unpredictable, aggressive, and dangerous. Often a person that has a Pit Bull is someone that is trying to look tough. They think that having a dog that is capable of killing makes them look intimidating. In reality, it can show that they are possibly victims of S.M.S. ( Small Man Syndrome ).

Another clue to your personality is the health of your dog. If your dog eats right, gets enough exercise and attention from you it shows that you really care about your companion. Having a healthy, happy dog also shows that you are a responsible person and that you are capable of providing a good life for your dog. A sickly dog or one that is either over or under weight is an obvious sign that his master does not care about him. Or maybe they liked the idea of having a dog, and then after a little while the novelty was gone and they started to neglect their dog. This person should not have a dog.

One more way that your dog says something about you is his behavior. We have all been to the park and seen the out of control dog that cannot even walk along side his master on a leash. Seeing someone try to get an untrained dog to listen can be painful to watch. Most likely this person is the type of person that starts something and then does not finish it. They got a dog and want to have fun with him, but they have failed to put the proper time and effort into training the dog. Being the master of a well trained dog shows that a person is willing to put in the work ahead of time to have an enjoyable experience with their dog.

Having a dog can be a great experience for both master and pet. This is as long as you take care of mans best friend in the right way. So enjoy this relationship and show others your personality through your dog.

      Hey Louise

Pop a drop of Betadine on and all should be well. However I would still recommend that you take your dog to the Vet to have him checked over to make sure all is ok.

  3. Lorette,

I agree that you can tell a lot about a person by what type of dog he has. People with aggressive dogs tend to be like their dogs. I have two friends with labradors who are just as laid back as their dogs.

BTW I have a pet website that you might want to do a blogroll trade with. Why don’t you check it out and let me know.

  4. I have one tip for dog owners, take your dog to a dog park (if ones near by of course) twice a week and let them run and play, they will love it so much you have no idea.

  8. Hi Lorrette. Fun post. I have a beautiful blue merle Australian Shepherd. I got her for companionship and they are a very loyal breed. I agree that dogs can say a lot about their owners’ personalities. One of the reasons I went with an Australian Shepherd is that they are very active. I like to do a lot of outdoor activities like jogging, hiking, and bike riding. I can take my Aussie anywhere. She’ll run up beside me even when I’m on my bike : )

      Hi Dayne

How wonderful they are those Australian Shepherds. We used to have two a male and female, Bear and Cassie. They too were just brilliant active and did everything (or most everything) we did. Give yours a big warm Aussie hug from me.

  9. Do people really care what a dog says about you? I got my dog for companionship. I could care less what people think of me because of the dog I have.

      Hi Anthony

No, I do not believe people really care what a dog says about you…this post was purely a light-hearted humorous look at the subject.

I have always had dogs that I continue to spoil rotten, they are my most loyal of friends and companions, so I understand what you mean about ‘companionship’.

So hey Anthony, enjoy your four legged friend and pass on a big warm hug from the Daily Screw-Ups team. Take care now.

  10. You are way off on your thinking, especially about the Pit Bull. A dog to some extent is reflective of the owner’s personality, but an erroneous impression about a dog is an erroneous conclusion. Pit bulls are powerful dogs that have a high tolerance for pain, but they are not mean or aggressive or unpredictable. I had a pitbull and he frightened anyone coming to the house, because he would charge very aggressively. He could hardly wait to be petted, to smell new people, and lick them on the face. Pit bulls are great with children, because they tolerate a lot of pain. The most bites are actually caused by small dogs like the poodles.

      Hi Kathy
I think you have yourself clarified the intention of my remark with your comment –

‘I had a pitbull and he frightened anyone coming to the house, because he would charge very aggressively’

I personally have nothing against the breed and in fact am a chronic lover of all dogs – I do agree with you that a dog to some extent is reflective of the owner’s personality – dogs that are loved and respected as part of a family generally demonstrate loving and gentle temperaments.

Your dog sounds like that exactly. Thanks for your comments and your visit.

      Take care
