Investment Tips For 2009 : Determining Your Risk Tolerance
Investment: Risk Tolerance
I have a financial planner who, amongst other strange attributes, has a perky sense of humor. This may of course get him firmly slapped across the head if he continues to practice his comedic aspirations on me. At our last meeting, greeting me with a chuckle, he offered me coffee and a gift voucher to an anger management class. I wonder why would he think I get angry around him.

Using his usual annoyingly authoritative air, this is how he explained investment risk tolerance to me, emphasizing that:
- Each of us has a risk tolerance level that should not be ignored
- Any good stock broker or financial planner worth his salt knows this, and should make the effort to help determine what our risk tolerance levels are
- They should work with us to find investments that do not exceed our risk tolerance - as both low and excessive risk tolerance could, as well as negatively affecting our health and financial stability, have an adverse affect on our personalities!!...Mmmmmmmm!
- We must realize that our need for a high risk tolerance or our need for a low risk tolerance really has no bearing on how we feel about risk. Did that make sense...???
So here's how I see it
If you invested in the stock market and you watched the movement of that stock daily and saw that it was dropping slightly, once you had picked your heart and stomach up off the floor, what would be the thing to do?
Would it be to sell out or to let your money ride? If you had a low tolerance for risk, you would probably want to sell out and immediately throw back a couple of valium… if you had a high tolerance, you would probably, with gritted teeth and white knuckles, let your money ride and see what happens.

The Bank now days is as important as the banker. When WAMU was bought out by Chase and they start playing the old switch-a-roo without notification of changes. Your good old banker could do nothing for you.
Seems many of the banks worldwide thought that that would be a fun game to play with their customers. Thanks for your comment Oliviya.
Cheers

Too funny! What a hilarious article and much needed given the current economic crisis ravaging the country. People have seen their whole nest egg wiped out the last few months with no clear relief on the horizon. It’s nice to see some people are weathering the storm with a sense of humor.

Yes it unfortunately seems like it is the never ending story at the moment, everyday the news reports another and another and another situation where people have trusted enough to invest for their futures only to find themselves on the brink of financial hardship – the greed of some has resulted in the destruction of so many nest eggs.
