Its Not So Difficult To Find Creative Gift Ideas!
Confessions of a 'Dysfunctional Gift Shopper'

I utterly detest shopping for gifts. Although I enjoy gift-giving, I spend hours going around in circles not quite knowing in the first place what it is I am looking for.
I end up buying the same mundane assortment of practical staples like neckties, socks, soaps, chocolates, biscuits and other such lack-lustre items.
There is no 'big buzz' in either giving or receiving what my mother refers to as 'good practical gifts.'
Finding a solution and getting assistance
In an effort add a dimension of color and excitement to my gift giving and expand my gift selection techniques, I enlisted a friend to help me come up with some new fun and unusual ideas. I was hopeful the suggestions she offered up would have my family and friends being at least a little grateful for the sudden absence of my usual and anticipated 'boring practical gift offerings.'
Furthermore, even if they hated my choice of gifts, surely now I would have them gasping in shock or at least adding a whole new dimension to their expectations of what they may receive from me in the future.

Yeeeeeha!!
Interesting advice and some 'unique' ideas
Her advice - 'Give An Experience' of some kind, provide an opportunity to 'Experience Something For The First Time' like..
- bungy or parachute jumping
- flying lessons
- makeovers
- wine tasting classes
- driving experiences - like taking a Porche/Ferrari or other luxury car for a day
- for more adventurous types - a Harley Davidson ride or rally driving experience.
What I discovered online
Ok, so these ideas are hugely better than anything I have ever come up with, and they sounded sweet, but I was still not convinced I had gotten the 'full monty'.
My search was far from over.... I was now itching to see what else was lurking in the on-line gift shopping shadows, my creativity button had now been well and truly pushed. I was confident and on the hunt for some budget-conscious unique and unusual gift ideas that were fun, a little left of field and affordable.
'Bingo' I hit the jackpot and found stacks of unusual gift ideas and an assortment of very cool stuff, like..
- see through sun visors
- football & baseball scorecasts
- rechargeable portable jump starters
- tea tasting extravaganzas
- how to create personalized photo books
- where to buy genuine movie memorabilia, and
- a little humorous literary gem entitled 'The Encyclopedia Of Immaturity' (a complete guide to How To Never Grow Up).

Lookin good!!
At last confidence and creativity
No more cringing when someone opens a gift from me, no more 'boring practical gift giving' from this little black duck. I was now armed with enough information to safely get me through the next few years of gift buying.
My good friend who started me on this amazing journey will no doubt, enjoy her 'Lunch With Llamas'. Of course Mum will no doubt wonder where her lessons on practicality went when she receives her 'Dancing With The Stars Lessons for Ten People'. The 'Olive Oil Appreciation Kit' will only serve to confirm my Nanna's opinion of my inability to do anything without her supervision.
Hopefully, my pregnant daughter and her husband will appreciate the unique 'special memory' value of the 'Deluxe Belly Casting Kit'. Will my mother-in-law have some idea of what to make of her 'Adopt-A-Vine from the Macedon Ranges in Victoria'? My husband on the other hand may just shake his head in disbelief when he receives his 'Circus Skills Training Voucher'.
But.......I'll never be guilty of giving boring socks, ties or soaps again!

I understand your dilemma all too well! Most of my family and friends live interstate, apart from my husband and kids (of course!). When you aren’t around somebody every day, and don’t know what they consistently use, what they’re talking about and excited about, etc, you often have no idea what to get them as a gift. Asking them what they would like is one thing … but a well thought out surprise beats the pants off just getting something I would have bought myself anyway. Gift vouchers are a good halfway point – and enlisting the ’services’ of other friends and family members for research helps also!
Thanks for your great comment and thoughts. By the way I popped over to your site http://www.alburyenvirobags.com.au/ and – Wow! you do have have some great bags. Thanks for visiting, I hope you come back soon.
Cheers

If you are looking for a simple twist on a normal gift, instead of getting someone a normal gift card. Get someone an eGift card from a site like http://www.giftzip.com they are a directory that lists hundreds of companys that offer egift cards as an option. Its instant, no surcharges, and most importantly greener because there is no need for a plastic card anymore.
Jake – thanks for the heads up and the ideas. Might just get on over there myself.
Cheers

I hate buying gifts for people. Never know what to get and you don’t want to get the same old same old.
Yep..exactly! So many of us share that same problem….”What To Buy!!’
Personally I think that Novelty ties make one of the best type of gift. There are so many novelty ties that can really express one’s personality. Why not go for that?
Tyler @ Buy Novelty Ties´s last blog ..How Do You Clean a Tie?
Now that is a great idea, novelty ties certainly would add a spark of fun and interest to tie gift giving. Thank you.
